Locations that generate food scraps will be provided training and receptacles based on the amount of food scraps that are generated. Foods scraps include fruits, vegetables, meat, poultry, seafood, shellfish, bones, rice, beans, pasta, bread, cheese and eggshells. In addition, food soiled paper such as used paper napkins, paper towels, paper plates, tea bags and coffee grounds are acceptable. Please contact Athens Services at (888) 336-6100 to schedule a visit from an Commerical Organics Composting Expert.
Commercial Recycling Services Recycling services are available to Redondo Beach businesses as part of the City’s overall trash collection services at no additional charge. Every business in the City may take part in a commercial recycling program targeting the collection of mixed paper products, which make up the largest portion of business waste, as well as plastic, glass, and metal containers. Please call Athens Services at (888) 336-6100 to request a free analysis of your business waste.
Economic Benefits of Business Recycling
By reducing the amount that goes into your trash bin, you can save money on your refuse bill. Businesses pay for trash collection by the size of the bin they use and how frequently it is collected. Placing recyclables in a recycling container and food scraps in an organics collection container automatically reduces the amount in the trash container. This practice can result in downsizing the trash bin and reducing the number of refuse pick-ups required and thereby lowers your refuse bill.
After you establish a recycling and a food scraps program; merely evaluate how much trash disposal service you really need. For example, if you can reduce your trash collection from twice a week to once a week or reduce the size of the trash bin that you have, your annual refuse budget can be significantly reduced. By periodically observing what materials are placed in your trash bin, and how full it is on collection day, you can evaluate your actual trash collection needs.

How To Make Your Business Recycling Programs A Success Successful business recycling programs begin when each employee participates in the programs. By establishing a recycling policy for your business, and informing everyone about how the recycling programs work, your programs can and will be effective. Start with these few guidelines:
First ...... Order the outdoor recycling receptacles provided by Athens Services.
Next...... For the collection of recyclables such as paper, plastics, etc., place clearly labeled indoor recycling receptacles in central locations for your employees to use. Locate the receptacles near the copy machine, printer, fax machine, and break area and the back door or the loading dock of your business so that recycling is convenient. For the collection of food scraps, place the receptacles in the kitchen and break rooms.
Then...... Empty the indoor recycling bins into the outdoor receptacles when they are full.
Finally..... Review the "Do’s & Don’t Recycle" list of recyclable materials. Remember to keep all other materials out of your recycling container to avoid contamination.
Remember... Items on the "Don’t Recycle" list will contaminate a load of otherwise valuable recyclables.
How To Keep the Program Going
Once the program is underway, remember to review the recycling program instructions with all employees. Train new employees on how to separate recyclables and food scraps from the trash as part of their new employee orientation program. Finally, make sure you put the right recyclables in your receptacle.
