In December 2017, the City of Redondo Beach joined a Community Choice Aggregation program called the Clean Power Alliance. Through Community Choice Aggregation, government agencies join together to purchase or generate cleaner electricity for residents and businesses.
In October 2018, the Redondo Beach City Council selected 50% renewables as the default rate for all energy customers in the City. The 50% renewable "Clean Power" tier will be the same cost as Southern California Edison's current base rate, which contains only 34% renewables.
Through the City’s membership in the Clean Power Alliance, Redondo Beach residents and businesses are automatically being enrolled in the program. Beginning in February 2019, all residential energy customers in Redondo Beach will receive 50% of their energy from clean, renewable sources. Non-residential customers will begin service in May 2019.
Energy users will also have the choice of switching to either 36% or 100% renewable energy, or opting out of the program and returning to receiving power exclusively generated by Southern California Edison. Regardless of the option selected, Southern California Edison will continue to deliver power to homes and businesses, send one bill, and be responsible for resolving any issues with electricity service.
For more information visit www.cleanpoweralliance.org or contact Clean Power Alliance at customerservice@cleanpoweralliance.org or (888) 585-3788.
