Household Hazardous Waste Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) is any product labeled: toxic, poison, corrosive, flammable, combustible or irritant. Examples are: paint, motor oil (PDF), pesticides, and solvents. For a complete list of HHW, review the Complete List of Household Hazardous Waste (PDF) document. 

Universal Waste (U-Waste) are products containing: mercury, lead, cadmium, and other harmful substances. Examples are: household batteries, fluorescent light bulbs, mercury thermostats, sharps (needle syringes) (PDF) and expired medications (PDF).

CFL Bulb

As an added convenience, household batteries and CFL light bulbs are also collected year-round. Visit the Batteries and Compact Fluorescent Light (CFL) Bulb page for recycling locations.

Mandatory Commercial Recycling

Assembly Bill 341 requires all multi-family buildings of 5 or more units and businesses with 4 or more cubic yards per week of refuse service have a recycling program in place or subscribe to a service that includes mixed waste processing.
