Redondo Beach is primarily a residential community with a population of 63,261[1]in an area of 6.35 square miles. The median price of a single family home is $785,000.[2] The City manages its own public safety with 109 police officers and 67 firefighters, paramedics and harbor patrol officers. There are fifteen parks, thirteen parkettes, a recreational waterfront featuring two miles of sandy beaches, the Redondo Beach Pier and King Harbor area, two libraries, five community centers and a 1,450 seat performing arts center. The twelve public schools in Redondo Beach are among the finest “distinguished schools” in the country (see Redondo Beach Unified School District).
