Volunteers In Policing (VIP)

The Volunteers in Policing Program (VIP) began in 1994 with one volunteer as a trial effort. Over the past eight years the program has evolved into an integral part of the Redondo Beach Police Department. At present we have eighteen VIPs assigned to the Patrol Division, two or three new volunteers are in their backgrounds now. We are always trying to recruit more, through a variety of sources. The VIPs work in a uniform identifying them as members of the Police Department, but distinguishing them as volunteers. They work in pairs and drive a marked white police vehicle with Volunteers in Policing written on the vehicle. The following is a list of the activities they perform:

  • Detectives

  • Public Safety Fair

  • Shopping Carts

  • Abandoned Vehicles

  • Radar Trailer

  • Radar Surveys

  • Drivers License/DUI Check Points

  • Alarm Card Verifying

  • Illegal Signage
