Welcome to the Redondo Beach Fire Department

On August 29, 2022, Fire Chief Patrick Isidoro Butler was sworn in as the interim Fire Chief and Harbor Master for Redondo Beach. Chief Butler spent 31 years in the Los Angeles Fire Department and retired as the Assistant Fire Chief. He holds a doctorate from USC, a Masters from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School, a Bachelors in Management, a graduate of the West Point Leadership program, and a Harvard Fellow. He has responded to thousands of emergencies in his career and holds several federal qualifications in the Incident Command System. Chief Butler has both marine and aviation experience, he served as the Chief of the Port of Los Angeles with oversight of the Fire Rescue Boats, SCUBA Divers and Vessel Inspections as well as the Aviation Unit and oversight of Airport Rescue and Firefighting of LAX and Van Nuys airport. Born the son of a Mexican immigrant he speaks fluent Spanish and spent much of his youth growing up in his mother's hometown of Veracruz, Mexico.

Welcome to the Redondo Beach Fire Department web site. We hope the information provided will be helpful to you and your family. The Redondo Beach Fire Department is a full service Fire Department that provides fire suppression, emergency medical response, code enforcement and marine safety services. 

The Redondo Beach Fire Department is designated as a Class 1 Fire Department by the Insurance Services Office. Less than 1% of all fire departments in the country  receive a Class 1 rating. Redondo Beach Fire Department provides its services from three Fire Stations strategically located within the City boundaries. Additionally, Fire Station #3 serves as the base for our Harbor Patrol and Paramedic Fire Rescue Boat providing services to all boaters within the harbor and in the outer waters when responding to May Day calls. The Redondo Beach Fire Department provides for the public’s safety by deploying and staffing a variety of emergency response vehicles. In addition to firefighting, the Department cross-trains its staff to provide special services such as emergency medical care, hazardous materials management, and special rescue operations.

The Department maintains two dedicated paramedic squads, three fully staffed paramedic fire engines, a battalion chief, a paramedic 100’ ladder truck, a paramedic marine rescue/harbor patrol vessel, and a fire boat. Additional resources include a hazardous materials response unit and light/air support vehicle. These Department resources are available 24 hours a day for those in need.
