Ernie O’Dell, City Treasurer Since his election as City Treasurer in March of 1995, Ernie has incorporated a variety of new programs into Treasury departmental operations that have generated over $1 million in additional annual revenue to the City’s budget through innovative changes and best management practices. These innovations have served to promote citizen trust by increasing organizational efficiency and fiscal responsibility, while improving the City’s financial viability and expanding upon community economic opportunities.
Ernie served as President of the Association of Public Treasurer’s United States and Canada (APTUS&C) from August 2009 through June 2010. Prior to serving as President of this national association, Ernie served the APTUS&C as Treasurer of the Investment Policy Certification Committee, Board of Directors, Secretary, and President-Elect. Ernie has attained the professional designation of Certified Municipal Treasurer from the California Municipal Treasurer’s Association, as well as Certified Public Finance Administrator from APTUS&C.
Prior to being elected Redondo Beach City Treasurer in 1995, Ernie served as the Executive Director of the Redondo Beach Chamber of Commerce for ten years, serving as President of the South Bay Chambers of Commerce, President of the Southern California Association of Chamber Executives, and served on the Board of Directors of the California Chamber Executives, having earlier worked in both the aerospace industry as well as in real estate development.
Community Service Ernie has been active on a number of local commissions and charitable organizations, including positions on the Recreation & Parks Commission, and service on the Board of Directors of the South Bay Children’s Health Center, Beach Cities Health District Finance Committee, Treasurer of the South Bay Cities Council of Governments, President of the North Redondo Beach Business Association, President of the Redondo Beach Rotary Club, Round Table, and numerous other charitable activities. Ernie is a five-time recipient of the “Presidents Award” for outstanding Rotarian.

Ernie served in the U.S. Army as a Huey Helicopter Crew Chief from 1964 to 1967. He attained his Masters of Business Administration from CaliforniaCoastUniversity. Ernie is married with two children and enjoys walking with his wife Ann, bicycling, and golf.
