New! Single Family Curbside Compost Collection (green cart) All yard trimmings, food scraps, food soiled paper and organics is collected in the green cart. No dirt or sod are allowed. Please do not over load the carts. Lids should not be open more than 3 inches and should not exceed a weight limit of 150 lbs.
Yard trimmings include grass clippings, leaves, brush, small branches, tree trimmings and other forms of organic materials generated from landscapes or gardens.
Do not include palm fronds, animal waste, large pieces of lumber, stumps, oversized branches and construction debris.
Food scraps include fruits, vegetables, meat, poultry, seafood, shellfish, bones, rice, beans, pasta, bread, cheese, and eggshells. In addition, food soiled paper such as used napkins, paper towels, paper plates, tea bags, and coffee grounds are accepted in the green cart.
PLEASE DO NOT USE PLASTIC BAGS IN THE GREEN CART!
Only compostable bags can be used to dispose of the food scraps. Compostable bags can be purchased at:

If your favorite Redondo Beach grocery or drug store does not carry compostable bags, please call the Public Works Department to let us know at (310) 318-0686, ext. 4193. Also mention your request to the Store Manager as they may be unaware of the product demand.
Free Residential Food Scrap Container To help you set-up a collection system for the new Curbside Compost Collection Program, the City of Redondo Beach Public Works Department is distributing kitchen counter-top collection containers at no charge. Simply come by the Corporate Yard at 531 N. Gertruda Ave., Redondo Beach between the hours of 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Monday - Friday to pick up your container.
