1935 Manhattan Beach Boulevard Redondo Beach, CA 90278 Aviation Park is a 14-acre recreation facility located at Aviation and Manhattan Beach Boulevards in northern Redondo Beach. The park is home to the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center. This 1,457-seat theater is a center for cultural and recreational events including Civic Light Opera of South Bay Cities, Distinguished Speaker Series, and more. The theater, which has just completed a $11 million expansion, contains a 3,800 sq. ft. Grand Lobby, restrooms, box office, stage (37' deep x 86' wide), scene shop, green room, and dressing rooms. Numerous upgrades to the theater have included seating refurbishment, computerized climate control, remodeled interior, lighting upgrades, new rigging system, enlarged orchestra pit, improved acoustics, and a new state-of-the-art digital sound system. The Aviation Gymnasium includes a large gym (12,000 sq. ft.), small gym (6,300 sq. ft.), dance room (1,221 sq. ft.), locker room, and restrooms. Three exercise rooms are leased to TRW for its employee fitness program. New restrooms/locker rooms were completed in June 1993. The facility provides space for numerous recreational programs including Redondo Beach Youth Basketball, Redondo Beach Youth Volleyball, City Adult Sports Leagues, Redondo Beach Recreation Classes, Junior High dances, and special private events. Primary users include City Adult Sport Leagues, City Recreation Classes, Redondo Beach Junior High Dances, Redondo Beach Youth Basketball and Volleyball, TRW Employee Fitness Program, Private Parties & Events. Call 318-0610 for reservation information. Aviation Track & Field is a lighted track and field used for City and private events, and by the general public. The track is a clay-based, 440-yard, eight-lane running track surrounding a regulation-size football field. Bleachers are located east of the track. A field house/restroom building is located on the south end of the track. The park also contains an open activity area between the theater and gymnasium which is rented for outdoor festivals and events. Planned improvements to the facility and surrounding areas include a fully developed road to Space Park Drive, utility hook-ups for field events, replacement of regulation track with jogging trail, built-in concrete bleachers for 500 persons and landscaping, fencing and signage.
