Redondo Beach Community Safety Fair & Police Department Open House
Chief of
Police Mel Nichols has announced that on Sunday, October 1st, 2000, the Redondo
Beach Police Department and the Redondo Beach Public Safety Commission will
co-host a Community Safety Fair and Police Department Open House at the Civic
Center and Police Facility. Activities will begin at 10:00 a.m. and conclude at
3:00 p.m. The event will feature tours of the Police Station, static displays of
police equipment and fire apparatus, safety and crime prevention exhibitions,
entertainment and food free of charge to the public.
This will
be the sixth annual event of its type in Redondo Beach. This event has hosted
thousands of visitors over the past five years. There will be a Mini Fun-Fest
sponsored by the Redondo Beach Recreation and Community Services Department.
There will also be an opportunity to recycle old computers and VCR’s.
As part
of the Community Oriented Policing philosophy, the Police Department’s doors
will be open to the public. Everybody is invited to tour the police facility and
enjoy the activities at the safety fair. There will be numerous photo
opportunities.
The
activities will be fun and educational. The Fire Department and components of
the Police Department such as K-9, DARE and SWAT will present displays and
exhibits. Vendors will display personal safety and crime prevention technology.
The Safety Fair is the “kick-off” event for Fire Prevention Week and designating
October as Crime Prevention Month.
The Civic
Center and the Police Department are located at the corner of Pacific Coast
Highway and Diamond Street in Redondo Beach.
The media
is invited to attend a press conference on the Serious Traffic Offender Program
(S.T.O.P.) to be held at the City Council Chambers at 11:00 A.M.
