Fatal Traffic Accident
On
Sunday, August 27, 2000 at about 6:19 p.m., a 50 year old male resident of
Torrance was riding his motorcycle on Catalina Ave. at the intersection with
Emerald St. At the same time, Brian Chung, a 19 year-old resident of Torrance,
was driving a late model Honda Accord and attempted to make a left turn in front
of the motorcycle. The resulting head-on collision threw the motorcyclist about
30 feet.
The
motorcyclist, whose name is being withheld pending notification of his family,
was treated for massive head injuries and transported to the hospital. He had
been wearing a helmet at the time of the crash but not one that was approved by
the Department of Transportation.
The
motorcyclist was pronounced dead this afternoon at Little Company of Mary
Hospital in Torrance.
