Manhattan Middle School Employee Arrested For Sales of Methamphetamine
On
Tuesday May 23, 2000 Detectives of the Redondo Beach Police Department’s Special
Investigations Unit arrested Shirley Hill, a 42 year-old Hawthorne woman for
possession of methamphetamine. Shirley Hill is a cafeteria worker at the Middle
School located in the city of Manhattan Beach, the school has employed her for
the last five years.
Investigators developed information from different sources that Hilty was
selling methamphetamine on campus in the school parking lot. The S.I.U.
Detectives initiated an investigation, and after surveilling Hilty she was
arrested leaving the school. At the time of her arrest detectives discovered 17
individual packages of methamphetamine in her vehicle and a quantity of
methamphetamine was also found on her. A search warrant was served on her house
immediately after her arrest.
The
investigation is still ongoing to determine if the children from the school were
ever solicited by Hilty or exposed to the illicit drug. Hilty was released on
$20,000 bail and is scheduled for arraignment June 12, 2000 at South Bay
Superior Court. Hilty was charged with possession, possession for sales and
possession for sales within 1,000 feet of a school ground. For further
