Part 1 Crimes Reduced 7.39%
Police
Chief Steve Murdoch announced today that Part I Crimes in Redondo Beach
decreased by 7.39% in 2001 compared to 2000. The largest decreases by crime
category were in robbery, down by 22.78%, and burglary, down by 23.44%.
Homicides remained constant at one in both 2000 and 2001. There were five fewer

by 1 case). Larceny crimes decreased by 2.40% and auto theft had a similar
decrease of 2.98%.
This
decrease continues the downward crime trend in Redondo Beach. From 1991 - 2001,
Part I Crimes have decreased by 58.27%.
Chief
Steve Murdoch stated, "I believe our proactive style of policing, along with our
continued focus on working in partnership with the community, are two of the
factors which have contributed to the current reduction in crime. While there
are other elements which also impact crime, we will continue with our proactive,
community based commitment to improving the quality of life in Redondo Beach."
