Canine Team
The Redondo Beach Police Department established their Canine Team in the late 1970s with the purchase of two German Shephards....Kaiser and Oscar. These dogs were followed by Bishop, Donar, Alex, Boris, Mike, Boomer, Bear, Andrej, and Arko.
Today the city is protected by Canine Valor, Kona and Dak.
The purpose and function of the Canine Program is to deter the crime element within the city. When the criminals see our dogs...they know there is no escape. As the saying goes You can run...but you cant hide.
Each year the Canine Team hosts a competition at Redondo Union High School. Approximately forty Canine Teams from the southwest region of the United States come and vie for Top Dog honors. This Canine Trial is usually held the second Saturday in May. We look forward to seeing you there and introducing you to our partners!
Pier Unit
The Pier Unit responds to requests for emergency assistance and information along the waterfront, beach & bike paths, and King Harbor.
