Parking Enforcement

The City of Redondo Beach Parking Enforcement unit is dedicated to fairly enforcing the local and state laws that apply to the parking of motor vehicles.  The goal of these enforcement efforts to fairly allocate the scarce parking resources, thereby enhancing the quality of life for those who live, work, and play in the City.  The following is some information for motorists.

Park or Not to Park

Parking Violations.  In the unfortunate event that your vehicle is issued a violation, you have so options.  If you wish to contest the violation, the information to do so is on the back to the parking violation.   Should you wish to pay it immediately, please follow the instructions on the violation notice.  You may also pay for violations online at https://www.ticketwizard5000.com/.  or Mail to CITY OF REDONDO BEACH, PARKING CITATION PROCESSING CENTER, P.O. BOX 2730, HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA 92647-2730.  If you think you have received a violation, but lost your notice, you may check the above website to see if any violations are still outstanding on your vehicle.  Please make sure you have your vehicle’s license number so that they system may check for violations.

Abandoned Vehicles. If you observe vehicle in the City that has been parked in one spot for a long time, call our Abandoned Vehicle Hotline to have it marked. An officer will mark the vehicle and after 72 hours, if the vehicle has not moved, it will be towed. The Abandoned Vehicle Hotline is 310-318-0638.

Parking meters.  The City of Redondo Beach uses parking meters in some areas to ensure that parking is fairly allocated.  If you are a frequent visitor to Redondo Beach, you may wish to consider purchasing a parking meter permit.  This permit will allow to park at certain parking meters for the time limit noted on the meter without having to insert coins.  To obtain forms for parking meter permits, follow this link:  http://www.redondo.org/pdfs/treasurer/ParkingMeterPermit.pdf

Street sweeping.  The City of Redondo Beach regularly cleans its streets.  In order to do so, the street must be temporarily cleared of parked vehicles.  Signs are posted at the beginning of each block noting the day and time of temporary no parking.  If vehicles are encountered by the street sweeper during its operation, and the street sweeper must go around the vehicle, then a parking violation is usually issued to the vehicle.  If the sweeper has already gone down the street (this is evident by the wet sweeper tracks), and time is still remaining on the posted zone, vehicles may then park there.  For more information and a street sweeping schedule, follow this link: http://www.redondo.org/depts/public_works/street_sweeping.asp.

Preferential parking.  If you reside or own property in the following districts, the street parking is regulated by permit only at certain times.

Towing information.  My car was towed and I don’t agree with the reason, what can I do?
The first thing to do is go retrieve you car from the impound facility.  The City of Redondo Beach uses Frank Scotto Towing.  They are located at: 1750 W. 223rd Street, Torrance.    You should call the Tow company at 310-787-0208 to see if there is anything that they require prior to release of the vehicle.  It is important to retrieve your car quickly because impound fees accrue daily.  Towed cars can only be released to the registered owners of the car.

If you disagree with the reason the car was towed, the California Vehicle Code provides that the registered owner has a right to a hearing to contest the validity of the tow.

When a car is towed, the registered owner receives a Notice of Stored Vehicle from the Police Department.  This notice does state that in order to receive their poststorage hearing, the owners, or their agents, shall request the hearing in person, writing, or by telephone within 10 days of the date appearing on the notice.  The Hearing Officer for poststorage hearings in Redondo Beach is Mike Magdaleno, Municipal Enforcement Manager.  He can be reached at 310-372-1171, extension 2418, or by mail at 415 Diamond Street, Redondo Beach, CA  90277, or by e-mail at michael.magdaleno@redondo.org.  When requesting a hearing please be sure to include your name, your vehicle license number, the date and place your car was towed from, and the report number – listed as DR number – on the Notice of Stored Vehicle.  Please leave a phone number so that the Hearing Officer may get back to you and schedule the hearing.
