Animal Control

The City of Redondo Beach has an Animal Control program to help protect the welfare of animals and enforce the ordinances of the City as they relate to animals.  Some the animal related information is available to you here: 310-318-0611

·     Leash law.  All dogs must be controlled by a six foot leash when off the property of the owner.  The only place dogs are allowed off-leash is at the Redondo Beach Dog Park http://www.rbdogpark.com/

·     Impounded animals.  Should your pet escape confinement and be found wandering the streets, it may be picked up by our staff.  If your pet is impounded, you will be liable for impound fees in order to have your pet returned to you.  Those fees are $25 for the first impound, $40 for the second impound, and $80 for third and subsequent impound.  If your pet cannot be returned to you by the close of business, it will be placed in the care of the Los Angeles County Animal Care and Control shelter located at 216 W. Victoria, Carson.  In addition to impound fees, if your pet is taken to the shelter you will be responsible for shelter fees before your pet can be returned to you.  For more shelter information, please visit: http://animalcontrol.co.la.ca.us/html/Main1.htm

·     Dog tags.  All dogs in the City are required to wear tags issued by the City.  These tags are truly valuable tools allowing our staff the ability to contact the owner if we capture the dog.  Being able to identify a dog and return it to its rightful owner has spared many dogs from the stressful experience of entering the shelter until the owner arrives.

·     License laws.  All dogs in the City are required to be licensed.  Dog license fees are $40.00 per year.  You can get a 50% reduction in fees if you have your dog spayed/neutered.  Dog licenses may be purchased through the City Treasurer’s Office http://www.redondo.org/depts/treasurer/default.asp.  In order to purchase a license a recent certificate of rabies vaccination must be shown.

·     Bees.   If you observe bees that are stinging people or pets, call 9-1-1 immediately.  If you notice bees coming and going from structures (buildings, fences, etc), and they are not stinging anyone, then call our department and have an officer sent to assess the situation.  For more detailed information on bees or other pests, please visit: http://www.lawestvector.org/.

MaMarine Mammals . The City of Redondo Beach has secured the services of the Whale Rescue Team to provide care and rescue of marine mammals that beach themselves on our coastline. They are expert at handling these wild animals. A note of caution, should you see a seal or sea lion on the beach, DO NOT APPROACH IT! These are wild animals and will bite if they feel threatened or are ill. Call the Whale Rescue Team at (800) 39-WHALE (94253). They will come out and assess the condition of animal and perform a rescue if warranted. For more information on the Whale Rescue Team, you may contact them at: http://www.whalerescueteam.org/index.html

·     Barking dogs.  It is a violation of the Redondo Beach Municipal Code to allow your dog or other animal to bark or make any sound or outcry which results in noise levels at the complainants property line for more than five (5) minutes in one hour.  Complaints of this nature are handled via our barking dog complaint form.  If you would like one please print out the form/instructions and mail it back to us.
