City of Redondo Beach Rideshare Program Incentives & Guidelines As of January 2007 Introduction In an effort to improve air quality and reduce traffic congestion, the City of Redondo Beach has developed the Rideshare Program to offer valuable incentives to city employees who volunteer to use one of several alternative forms of transportation during their commute. Whether employees carpool, vanpool, walk, bicycle, take the bus, or drive an alternative fuel vehicle into work, not only will the air and streets be cleaner, but they can earn points to cash in on valuable merchandise. The following provides information on the programs specifics, eligibility requirements, and program rules. Who is Eligible? All City of Redondo Beach employees are eligible to participate in this program. Employees will earn award points for RIDESHARING, which is commuting to work by any of the following alternate modes of travel Monday through Friday exclusively: Carpool (two or more adults per vehicle -- spouses included!). Walk, Run, or Skate Bicycle Public Transportation (bus, shuttle, rail such as Green Line) Vanpool (7 or more adults per vehicle) Alternative Fuel Vehicles (as certified by CARB)
How Can Employees Earn Award Points? The Rideshare Program is based on daily award points. Employees earn 200 award points for each day they use an alternate mode of transportation other than driving alone Monday through Friday. The more days they participate, the more prizes they are eligible for! Please note that employees may not receive double credit for using multiple commute modes to work. For example: an employee who is in a two-person carpool and the vehicle is also electric would claim Alternative Fuel Vehicle credit only - not both Alternative Fuel Vehicle and two-person carpool. How Do Employees Report Rideshare Days? First, employees enroll in the program by contacting your Department Rideshare Coordinator or Citys Rideshare Coordinator at ext 2670. Employees will be provided with an enrollment form and a monthly report form to keep a record of your participation days throughout the month. Each month Employees will record the days in which they chose an alternative means of travel and the form of travel. If they carpool, one form should be completed per carpool with all the names of the carpool partners listed on the monthly report form. Complete the enrollment form and, on the last day of the month, return the enrollment and monthly report forms to the Rideshare Office in the Citys Harbor, Business and Transit Department. Its that simple! All report forms MUST be returned to the Rideshare Office by the 5th day of the following month to receive credit for ridesharing -- no exceptions. You will not receive credit if your monthly form is not received by the 5th day of the following month. Employee Bank Account A Bank Account will be established after Employees have turned in their enrollment forms. Each month award points will be deposited into the account based on the number of days the Employees have participated. Employees will receive a postcard listing your bank account amount each month for the previous months activity. Gift Certificates for Points! In order to get the greatest value for the points, the City offers Sears gift certificates that can be obtained by redeeming rideshare points. Employees can purchase a $25 gift certificate for 6000 award points. To order gift certificates, Employees submit their requests in writing to the Rideshare Office in the Citys Harbor, Business and Transit Department. Guaranteed Return Trip If Employees are enrolled in the Rideshare Program and rideshare to work at least 2 days per week, they are never stuck when a need for a return trip is created. Employees simply make a phone call to the Rideshare Office at ext. 2670 and identify themselves as a Rideshare participant and indicate how they arrived to work that day. A return trip is guaranteed by taxi, a company vehicle or fellow employee at NO cost to the Employee. Return trips are guaranteed in the event of a personal emergency involving the Employee, the Employees carpool partner, the Employees child, or an immediate family member, unplanned overtime, inclement weather or civil unrest. Planned changes in the Employees ridesharing commute are not considered emergencies. Ridematching Services Employees interested in participating in a carpool or vanpool, but do not have a partner, may identify themselves to the Rideshare Coordinator at ext. 2670. The Coordinator will make every effort to find the Employee a match. Participants can also receive assistance in identifying Park & Ride Lots. Cycle-Commuters Any bicyclist who would like to have a commuting partner can request a biking partner match-up. Bicyclists who are enrolled in the program may also use a locker for storage, as facilities are available. Employees interested in cycle-commuting can receive assistance with identifying Bicycle and Pedestrian Routes. Walkers, Runners, Skaters, Joggers Redondo City Walk maps are available to walkers, runners, skaters, joggers, and other pedestrian commuters who are enrolled in the Citys Rideshare Program. Transit Users Transit users who are enrolled in the program can obtain information regarding the various fixed route transit service between the Green Line and City Hall. Alternative Fuel Vehicles Employees who use compressed natural gas vehicles for 50% or more of their commute will receive one free fill-up per month at the Citys CNG fueling station. No credit is given to hybrid or dual-fuel vehicles. Prize Drawings Annually a drawing for $50 in gift certificates or prizes will be conducted for participation in various rideshare events and activities. Ride matching entry forms will be available. Additional Program Requirements Employees must be working for the City of Redondo Beach at the time they place an order for the award points to be valid. If Employees are planning to leave City service, they must place their order prior to the end of service date or they will forfeit their points. Disputes of any kind relating to this program will be resolved by the Rideshare Coordinator, Interdepartmental Committee, Transit Manager, or the City Manager. Award points are non-transferable. Employees must complete the annual Average Vehicle Ridership survey (for auditing purposes) to remain a Rideshare participant. All monthly report forms must be returned to the Rideshare Office located in the Citys Harbor, Business and Transit Department by the 5th day of the following month to receive credit for ridesharing. Falsification of any portion of this program subjects the employee to disciplinary action up to and including termination. |
