Getting Started with Solar Photovoltaic
Are you planning to install a solar photovoltaic system on your property? The City of Redondo Beach has expedited permit processing for solar applications. Just bring your plans to the Community Development Department counter in City Hall and they can be reviewed and approved over the counter.
Plans
Solar plans should include the following:
- Calculations and details demonstrating method of attachment of panels and adequacy of supporting members.
- Elevation drawings showing the heights of the panels
- A site plan showing location of panels and equipment relative to property lines
- Provide manufacturer specification sheets for panels and equipment
- All work must comply with the California Building Code and Electrical Code as well as all Redondo Beach Municipal Code Requirements
- Provide two sets of plans
Permits & Fees
In order to get approval to install your solar structure you will need to obtain an Electrical Permit. The permit fee, which will not exceed $500, covers the costs of reviewing the plans, issuing the permit and performing an inspection.
Inspection
After you obtain a permit you may proceed with the work. Once the installation is completed, you can call the City to arrange for a final inspection.
The City’s Inspection Hotline is (310) 318-0607. If you call before 3:00pm your inspection can be scheduled for the following day.
