Volunteer Opportunities with the City of Redondo Beach 

Volunteering is a wonderful way to give back to your community. Listed below are City departments that accept volunteers.  If you’re interested in submitting an application to become a volunteer with the City of Redondo Beach, click HERE.

WebPic_LibraryLibrary Services Department

Volunteer at the Main Library or the North Branch!  Depending on skills and interests, library volunteers assist with everything from shelf reading, to collection maintenance, to children’s programs, to computer assistance for the public, to maker activities.  The Friends of the Redondo Beach Public Library also accepts volunteers and their application can be accessed by clicking HERE.  

City Clerk's Office

Volunteers in the City Clerk's Office will assist staff with providing quality services to the citizens of our community. Volunteer tasks include records and file management, directing phone calls, and assisting staff during elections.

The Community Services Department offers a variety of volunteer opportunities, including the following:

  • Senior & Family Services – Work with staff to assist with programming, special events, lead classes, excursions and facility needs at one of the City’s senior center facilities.
  • Cultural Arts- Become a docent at the Redondo Beach Historical Museum at 302 Flagler Lane. 
  • Housing – Assist with the annual holiday toy drive collecting, sorting and handing out toys to families in need.
  • Recreation Services – Work with staff to assist with programming, special events and other tasks that support a variety of community activities.

Community Development Department

Volunteers with the Community Development Department will assist Building Division staff with records reports, records requests, file management and helping residents and community members on the phone or at the front counter.  The Building Division provides building permit, plan checking, and inspection services for new construction, additions, and remodels throughout the City.  Volunteers will gain invaluable knowledge on City processes and experience firsthand how projects progress to completion.

The goal of the Volunteers in Policing (VIP) Program is to create a partnership with members of the community who can assist the Police Department with specific law enforcement tasks.  For further details on this program, interested applicants can visit the VIP page HERE.

Volunteer Opportunities with Non-City Organizations 

Volunteer Match and LA Works are two databases that share upcoming events throughout Los Angeles County that require volunteer assistance.  These databases may be searched by zip code or keyword.  Organizations on these sites include the California Native Plant Society, Boy and Girls clubs and the American Cancer Society.

The City also wants to provide an opportunity to local non-profits to connect with volunteers who want to offer their time and skills to a good cause. Non-profits interested in promoting their volunteer opportunities and recruiting volunteers on this site may submit a request for consideration using the Request to Post Form.

Volunteer Acknowledgement Program
The Recreation and Parks Commission recognizes the hard work and dedication of volunteers in making sure the City's parks and greenspaces can be enjoyed by the community and wants to recognize those individuals and organizations that are most deserving.  If you know of an individual or an organization that deserves recognition for their efforts related to the City's parks and greenspaces, please complete the Volunteer Acknowledgement Program Application.  Completed forms can be emailed to Kelly Orta at kelly.orta@redondo.org.   Please see the program's guidelines for information on available award categories, program qualifications and requirements, application review and recognition process.
